Today, Jim Brickman performed for two Lyric Theatre audiences. The first show began at 3:00 PM and was followed by a second show at 7:00 PM.

Jim Brickman did his best Kermit the Frog impression for audiences when he sang "The Rainbow Connection". During the shows, Mr. Brickman answered audience questions and was joined on-stage by Anne, a female vocalist.

Both shows went well.

All Shook Up Over Darrell Dunhill & Camille Terry

Tonight, the Lyric Theatre audiences gathered to be in the presence of "The King", "The King of Rock and Roll" that is. Darrell Dunhill starring as Elvis brought some of Mr. Presley's biggest hits to the Lyric stage.

Taking the audience on a trip through time, Mr. Dunhill highlighted Elvis's extensive career through song, dance, and wardrobe changes. He even excited women when he ripped off his "early Elvis" attire to reveal leather pants and jacket made famous during Elvis's 1968 Come Back Special.

Darrell wasn't performing alone tonight. Camille Terry, as Marilyn Monroe, gave audiences a glittering and dazzling series of old hits made famous by America's Original Blonde Bombshell. Later, Darrell was joined on stage by his four year old daughter who sang "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" and the audience turned to absolute mush.

Both Darrell and Camille signed photos and took pictures with audience members after the show in the lobby.

The 5 Browns

Tonight as well as last night, sensational siblings, The 5 Browns, brought 50 fingers, 5 Pianos and their beautiful talents to The Lyric for two amazing performances.

"Flight of the Bumblebee" wasn't all that impressed the audience either. The 5 Browns performed musical tributes of the music of some of Alfred Hitchcock's most famous films as well as the music of Star Wars!

Each sibling took their turn in the spotlight alone, performing solo pieces but were always rejoined by their 4 brothers and sisters.

All smiles from the time they walked in in the morning until they left late into the evening, all members of this talented family were a pleasure to be around sharing casual conversation and jokes. Keeping true to themselves and their faith, the siblings did not forget to say grace before their meal each night and shared a prayer before taking the stage.

It is evident how close these brothers and sisters are, each relying on the others for support and encouragement. Audiences would have a hard time not seeing this closeness from their seats as all 5 members take their cues off of each other for every flawless performance.

Broadway's Ben Vereen Brings "It" to the Lyric

Today, The Lyric Theatre was proud to present and host, Broadway legend, Ben Vereen.

Known for his roles in Jesus Christ Superstar, Sweet Charity, Hair, Pippin and a slew of other amazing credits, Mr. Vereen showed he is the consummate performer during two shows for Lyric Theatre audiences today.

At 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, audiences took their seats and watched one of Broadway and Hollywood's most loved and revered stars sing and dance in a way nobody else can. Although a tad-bit under the weather, Mr. Vereen's performances were all everyone had been looking forward to!

Tango Buenos Aires

Tonight, directly from Aregentina, the dance group Tango Buenos Aires took the Lyric Theatre stage for two shows!

The first show began at 5:00 PM and the audience was delighted by the firey and passionate performance. The second show began at 8:00 PM and the audience was equally impressed with the groups rhythms and sensual dancing.

Having already performed in many countries all over the globe, this group gave south Floridians a taste of their Argentinian culture through their music and movements and it is save to say all in attendance were enthralled.

Torme Sings Torme

Today, Steve March Torme, joined by a band of three, performed two shows for audiences at the Lyric Theatre.

Steve's biological father is legendary jazz musician and industry renaissance man, Mel Torme. His stepfather is entertainer and game show host, Hal March. Steve's mother was former model, Candy Toxton.

Mr. Torme, when not traveling around performing shows, hosts an afternoon radio show in Wisconsin where he lives with his wife and children.

Torme's performances were full of good-time nostalgia and short stories about his famous family and life. The musicians helping Mr. Torme today included: Ron Krasinski, Steve Rawlins and Jeff Fuller all of which were incredibly friendly and fun to work with. These guys kept smiling the entire time they were at the theatre and even took time to walk up and down our downtown streets, taking in some of our local shops. The band members even asked for Lyric Theatre baseball hats to wear while out and about! We certainly hope these guys will wear our hats throughout their travels!

Tina Sloan - Changing Shoes

Tonight and yesterday, Tina Sloan brought her stage show "Changing Shoes" to the Lyric Theatre stage.

Tina's one-woman show takes you through the journey of life and all the knowledge and experience gained from the beautiful and sad moments in all our lives. As Tina takes a walk down memory lane, one pair of shoes at a time, the audience travels along with her.

Sharing clips from her 26 years staring on the fan-favorite soap opera, Guiding Light, Tina's life-long fans and new fans all enjoyed. She also shared a few clips from some of the film work she has done in the past!

Her inspiring message of finding the answers to life's questions encourages the audience to celebrate the many stages of life, rather than giving up. Changing Shoes is about "getting older, not old, with style, humor and grace."

Ireland's Rhythm of the Dance

Yesterday afternoon and again later that evening, Ireland's dance company, Rhythm of the Dance, got Lyric audiences into the Irish spirit for the week of St Patrick's day!

With their breathtaking stage set-up and beautiful wardrobe pieces, these traditional Irish step dancers took Lyric patrons on a journey through Ireland's history as they told the story of two Irish Celtic clans fighting for freedom. Their combination of traditional and contemporary Irish dancing made for one incredible show.

The world's best Irish step dancers were backed by a live band playing traditional and contemporary Irish music as well as The Young Irish Tenors. Each of the young performers who make the show possible have such extraordinary talents! It's not hard to see why Rhythm of the Dance has become one of the world's most popular Irish step shows since it's debut in 1999.

Although the greater majority of the performers were straight out of Ireland, there were several members of the company from other countries of the world as well such as Russia, France, England and the United States!

"Judge" J.C. Hancock and his son C.F. "Fred" Hancock opened the Lyric Theatre on March 15th, 1926 as a 900 seat theatre at the Flagler Avenue location. (It had previously been located on Osceola Street with only 250 seats!) The opening night 6:30 pm performance was by local entertainer N.J. Hickery, singing stirring Scottish ballads. Accompanying him on the brand-new $12,000 pipe organ was the judge's wife, Mamie, who was the the local renowned music teacher.

The first film screened was the silent comedy "Skinner's Dress Suit" starring Reginald Denny and Laura La Plante.

The Platters

Today, The Platters, one of the world's favorite musical groups since the 50s, played to two Lyric Theatre audiences at 3pm and 7pm.

Both shows were everything you would expect from such seasoned talents as the members of The Platters. All who were in attendance thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

They sang such Platters favorites as: "Only You (and You Alone)", "Red Sails in the Sunset", "Remember When", "When Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" and more.

They even did a few hits from others including Jackie Wilson's "(Your Love Keeps Lifiting Me) Higher" and Chubby Checker's "The Twist" and "Let's Twist Again"!! Needless to say, the show was full of fun and tons of energy!

If you missed this or any of The Lyric's shows this season, there's still time to take in some truly fantastic shows. This week we have Ireland's national dance company Rhythm of the Dance performing two shows at 5pm and 8pm on Tuesday, March 15. Tomorrow, the Stuart Community Band brings the "Music of the Irish" to Downtown Stuart. In the lobby, you can even grab a cup of Irish Coffee made with Jameson's Irish Whiskey!

Hotel California, a tribute to The Eagles

Tonight, the ultimate Eagles tribute band took to The Lyric Theatre stage and gave two amazing performances to two audiences.

The first show happened at 5:00pm and was followed by a meet-and-greet in the lobby where the band signed goodies for fans. Then, at 8:00pm, they did it all over again. Judging by all the screaming, singing along, and clapping, I'd say both audiences loved it!

These guys couldn't have been any nicer either. Backstage the band hung out with staff and thanked them for absolutely everything.

Fans who couldn't get their hand on tickets for either of tonight's shows listened outside from the sidewalk and were very impressed with these guys' sound. Many people walking by could be heard commenting on just how much Hotel California sounds just like The Eagles!

If you missed the shows, keep a look-out for the upcoming 2011-2012 season schedule, maybe Hotel California will be back! You never know.

Frank Sinatra Jr

Over the last two nights, Frank Sinatra Jr has performed some of the world's favorite Frank Sinatra tunes for audiences at The Lyric Theatre.

"New York, New York" and "I've Got the World on a String" were on the list of hits and on Monday night, Mr. Sinatra made sure to sing the Frank Loesser song "Luck Be A Lady".

Tonight, before the show, Mr. Sinatra and the orchestra dined on the delicious Italian from Jerry's La Famiglia, located right here in Downtown Stuart, and Mr. Sinatra was very impressed with the chef's red sauce, he couldn't stop complimenting it!

Emanuel Ax

Widely considered one of the greatest pianist of the 21st century, Emanuel Ax brought his talent (and his iPad) to The Lyric Theatre.

Currently teaching at New York's Julliard School, Mr. Ax took time to make it down to Stuart, Fl for an evening of classical pieces by such composers as Schobert and Debussy. Although Emanuel was performing solo tonight, he often teams up with such modern musical greats as cellist Yo-yo Ma.

Michael Amante: From Pavarotti to Broadway

Over the past two nights, Michael Amante brought the best of Broadway and Classical Music to the hearts and ears of all those in attendance at The Lyric Theatre.

Pagliacci, Turandot and Phantom of the Opera were some of the world-famous shows from which Michael selected pieces to perform. The goosebumps rise and your breath can not be caught as you listen in pure amazement at the beauty flowing from Michael and filling the room. It was incredible.

Joined on-stage by an orchestra of local Florida musicians, the music was beautiful and his voice was incredible. A little burnt from driving around with the top down in our beautiful Florida sun, Michael was "hot" and so was the show! Mr. Amante makes his classically trained and flawless style seem so easy.

Michael couldn't do some of the pieces alone, however. He was joined on-stage for multiple duets by a very talented and very beautiful Soprano, Marissa Famiglietti. Providing Mr. Amante with a break here and there, Marissa even took the spotlight on her own for a couple of tunes.

Audiences fell in love, loved and then re-fell in love with Michael Amante. Stealing hearts all over the world seems to be an effortless endeavor for Mr. Amante and The Lyric Theatre audience was not immune to his charms and talent.

Doc Grober Provides Musical Medicine to Audiences

Tonight, making their second performance of the 2010-2011 season here at The Lyric Theatre, Doc Grober and The Mudcats brought Dixieland's best to our stage.

Playing all the good time favorites from 'Nawlins and the rest of the South, Doc Grober and The Mudcats made yet another happy audience. Toe-tapping and hand-clapping were in plenty throughout the show.

Band members and family dined together backstage on the delicious Italian supplied by Jerry's La Famiglia (family owned and operated and located right here in downtown Stuart).

The Doc was surprised on-stage when his daughter flew in from out of state to introduce her father; it was an incredibly sweet family moment.

Doc Grober and The Mudcats are sure to return to The Lyric Theatre in the future, and if you missed tonight's show, make sure you keep a look-out for upcoming shows so you won't miss this amazing show again!

Hilary Hahn

Tonight, The Lyric Theatre audience was able to witness one of the greatest and most accomplished classical artists of our time. Hilary Hahn brought her beautiful and skillful talent to our stage and amazed the audience, as she always does.

Being one of the world's foremost solo violinists, it makes sense that Ms. Hahn would have one of the world's foremost violins, and she does! Hilary Hahn is one of the very select few to play on a highly coveted Stradivarius violin, which is known for the high quality of sound it produces and it's extreme rarity.

In her Oscar de la Renta floral gown, Hilary took to the stage along with her pianist Valentina Lisitsa, who is also quite the famous and accomplished classical musician. It isn't hard to see that Valentina's true passion is her music; she takes a fierce and diligent approach to her practicing, barely stopping for snacks. The two days prior to the concert, Valentina practiced all day, but NOT the music to be played on show night. In fact, Valentina said she believed it to be bad luck to practice the pieces before the show.

In spite of suffering from a lingering cold, Hilary's performance was everything the audience expected and more! Valentina's accompaniment was breathtaking. Over all, the performance was amazing.

We wonder if Hilary will send her fans a "postcard" from Stuart, FL on her website. Or maybe her violin case will tweet about her experience here at The Lyric Theatre?

Savion Brings More Than The Noise To The Lyric

Broadway tap pioneer, Savion Glover, brought his tap shoes, charisma and insurmountable energy to the stage of The Lyric Theatre tonight as well as last night.

The sweat poured out of Savion along with his incredible talent. Barely stopping long enough to take a sip of water or to even catch his breath, Savion's showmanship really showed over these past two nights. A true professional, Mr. Glover moved his feet in ways you don't see very often. The sheer speed and veracity in which Savion tapped was enough to make you drop your jaw and just stare in absolute amazement, which is exactly what most of the audience and Lyric staff did!

Savion was joined on stage by another tap dancer who kept up with Mr. Glover impressively. The two of them also shared the stage with a three piece band consisting of a Guitar, Bass and the lesser-known, South American instrument, Cajon (it's a wooden box played by rhythmically slapping its thin front surface at various angles and heights while the player sits on its top to produce variations of tone). These three musicians were phenomenal! Director of Operations, Kia, was particularly impressed with the young lady playing the Cajon; mostly because female Cajon-players are such a rarity.

Over the past two nights, The Lyric Theatre has been filled with the rhythmic talents of 5 amazingly talented musicians. After all, the rhythms produced by the taps of Savion's feet are music in themselves. We certainly hope Mr. Glover will make another stop at The Lyric Theatre in the future, the show was one that won't easily be forgotten!

Tapping Tommy Tune Takes Over!

Tonight, as well as last night, Tommy Tune and The Manhattan Rhythm Kings took to The Lyric Theatre stage in their show: Steps in Time.

This wasn't their first time performing for The Lyric Theatre audience and every time these guys stop by, they bring one heck of a show with them!

Tommy Tune walked, or rather danced, the audience through his long and successful career with stories from the beginning to where he is now. His story was aided in its telling with classic Broadway numbers and other songs. Those who were able to see this incredible show could tell you, it wasn't just Mr. Tune's fancy footwork on display; two other extraordinarily talented gentlemen tapped alongside Tommy in many of the numbers.

and the music was absolutely amazing! The band members that make up the Manhattan Rhythm Kings are unbelievable! Alone, each one of the band members are fantastic and together, they can bring down any house!

The Lyric staff were not only treated to the amazing show along with the audience: one of our newest additions to The Lyric staff, Hospitality Manager, Katelyn, was even asked to assist Mr. Tune on-stage during one of the numbers! What a treat!

If you missed Tommy Tune and The Manhattan Rhythm Kings, my sympathies are with you, because if it hasn't been said enough: It - Was - AMAZING!!!

Savion Glover fever is spreading!

Savion Glover Taps Into History

Back on February 2, when The Harry James Orchestra took the stage at The Lyric Theatre, it was up to Box Office Manager, Polly, to "play John Loesser" for the evening and introduce Mr. James and the orchestra.

To look the part, Polly was sure to don a colorful tie and Lyric Theatre baseball cap, just like John would. This picture was snapped backstage just before Polly took the mic.

"At any rate," Polly looked and sounded perfect!!

Next week, Tommy Tune & The Manhattan Rhythm Kings will take the stage two nights in a row on February 21 and 22 to take the audience through "Steps In Time".

The excitement continues on February 23 and 24 when Broadway's ground-breaking tap dancer, Savion Glover brings more than "the noise" and "the funk" to our stage.

And Hilary Hahn treats audiences to her beautiful classic playing on her violin on Friday, February 25.

But we can't forget to mention Doc Grober and The Mudcats returning for their second show at The Lyric this season on Saturday, February 26. If you missed them in December, don't make that mistake twice.

Davy Jones Makes Us All Believers

Tonight, Davy Jones brought his exuberant stage presence and classic hits to Downtown Stuart for the second night in a row. Both tonight and last night, Davy Jones sang, danced, and generally monkee'ed around for sold out audiences.

Mr Jones transcends the generation gap, which seemingly doesn't exist in his case. The audience consisted of people of all ages, all of which were on their feet clapping and singing along to their favorite Monkee tunes. But it wasn't all singing and dancing; Davy treated audiences to his classic comical wit with many jokes.

"Peter, Mike and Micky are all doing well." Davy said. "I recently visited them and they're all sharing a little room in a beach house in California" he then went on to describe nursing home conditions as he poked fun at his own and his Monkee friend's ages.

After each show, Davy greeted audiences in the lobby of the theatre to take pictures and sign the tshirts and records they'd brought and bought. Taking time to really visit and speak with each and every fan, it was apparent to anyone around just how much Davy appreciates his fans after all these years.

Davy even spent some quality time with one "fan" in particular, Kona, The Lyric Theatre Dog. Or maybe, it's Davy who's a fan of Kona...

Everyone has their favorite Monkee song and Davy played all the great ones. Although nobody could agree on which song was the best, one thing everyone could agree on was what an amazing show they had just witnessed. It would be easy to say "Davy's still go it." but, honestly, "it" doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon. His performance would put anyone of any age to shame; even you, Justin Beiber!

The Flamenco Express pulls into Lyric station

Tonight, audiences of The Lyric Theatre were treated to one of the most beautiful displays of Flamenco dancing courtesy of Flamenco Express!

Lead dancers Jessica and Jose were joined by their fellow dancers and three incredible musicians to bring together an entirely new show on The Lyric stage. Early in the day is was unknown what the final outcome would be, since this new version of their highly energetic show had never been performed, anywhere. As the day progressed and the show came together, cast and crew were delighted to see just how amazing this new show really was.

The costumes were numerous and gorgeous! The set pieces were colorful and skillfully crafted! The lights flooded the stage in all "shades of breath-taking"! and the dancing was impeccable! All of this adds up to one amazingly entertainingly and beautiful show.

Capitol Steps

Whenever The Capitol Steps come to The Lyric, you all come out for a night of laughs at Washington's expense! Tonight, was no exception.

A lot of Lyric Theatre-goers look forward to The Capitol Steps returning year after year, and the jokes are never the same. If something is making headlines in the news, The Capitol Steps are making cracks at it on the stage.

With song and dance numbers about Health care Reform, Immigration/Arizona, Celebrity Scandal, and all the headlines, The Capitol Steps brought the audience to tears with all the hilarity! (Or maybe we were all crying about the state of our government?)

The Capitol Steps have never been strangers to The Lyric and we all certainly hope they'll be back in the future!

Harry James Orchestra

Tonight, The Harry James Orchestra played The Lyric and the audiences loved it! Mr. James was full of life and jokes and made several wise-cracks backstage and even on the side of the stage before his entrance.

Harry James asked his good friend Mr. McCormick (of McCormick spices) to say a little something to introduce him, and watching the two of them interact, you could really see their strong and fun-filled friendship.

Harry James' wife performed as a special guest vocalist and it sounded beautiful.

The whole orchestra was happy to hang out with The Lyric's #1 Dog, Kona. It's amazing how much of a comfort a canine can give to those on the road missing their pets at home.

The Bronx Wanderers

Tonight, The Bronx Wanderers returned to The Lyric for, not one, but two performances. Each one was absolutely mind-blowing.

Performing hits that really take you to a place in time when rock and roll was new, these guys are the genuine article. Each band member is multi talented, taking turns switching up instruments for different numbers. The audience barely took a break from clapping their hands and bobbing their heads and The Lyric staff were no different!

Family as well as band mates, these gentlemen are exceptionally talented and completely courteous and sweet. Smiling, joking and enjoying the warm Florida sunshine, The Bronx Wanderers can come back to The Lyric anytime! Everyone enjoyed having them here today.

A Night in Vienna

Tonight, The Lyric Theatre was happy to present The Philharmonic of Poland's A Night In Vienna. The very large orchestra has been touring around the states and were so happy to enjoy some warm weather here in Stuart.

They show was beautiful and the audience really enjoyed themselves.

The backstage area looked something like a bustling airport, with cases and trunks piled from wall to wall and people everywhere you looked chatting with one another. The musicians gathered 'round for dinner and snacks and in a flash it was all gone. With such a large group the food goes quickly!

Then, just as quickly as they came, the group piled into their vans and they were off; off to their next show.

Promises, Promises

All week long, Shiloh Theatrical Procdutions has been in the theatre presenting the musical comedy Promises, Promises!

Promises, Promises is based on the 1960 film The Apartment. The book is written by Neil Simon, so you know it's funny. The music is by Burt Bacharach and the lyrics by Hal David.

Promises, Promises originally ran on Broadway in 1968 before premiering in London in 1969. Last year, the Broadway revival ran starring Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes. The revival even earned Katie Finneran the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical!

Promises, Promises continues to run this weekend with shows on Friday, Jan 28 at 8pm. Saturday, Jan 29 at 2pm & 8pm and the final performance will be at 2pm on Sunday, Jan 30.

SARGE IN CHARGE AT THE LYRIC!

Tonight, comedian Sarge brought down the house at The Lyric Theatre!!

From start to finish, Sarge had everyone laughing hysterically!

Backstage, before the show, Sarge kept everyone around entertained with his jokes, stories, and overall hysterics. The jokes were a little dirtier than those performed during tonight's show and everyone who had the pleasure of keeping this guy's company, even if just a short time, were wildly entertained to say the least!

During the show, Sarge was backed by a band of musicians who helped him out with several songs. Sarge, in addition to being as funny as he is, is also quite the accomplished musician! He plays piano beautifully and even took song suggestions from the audience. His crooning voice entertained the audience in between jokes.

From what Sarge was saying, you can look for him to be appearing in an upcoming Gary Marshall movie, being filmed in the next couple of months in New York. One of the costars he mentioned, is the hot and funny Sofia Vergara from ABC's award-winning sitcom Modern Family! How exciting!

Expect even bigger things from Sarge to come! After years of performing for millions and after some personal struggles he was strong enough to endure and overcome, Sarge is ready to completely take over!

Sarge talked about his battle with addictions years ago as he ended his show and sent the message that anyone who knows a friend or family member currently struggling with addictions not to give up on that person. He said that without the help and support of friends, family, and God, he may have never recovered.

The Lyric is looking forward to seeing what Sarge accomplishes in the future!

Grammy Winner Joshua Bell

Grammy Award winning violinist Joshua Bell played to a full house tonight at The Lyric Theatre tonight.

Accomanied by a pianist, together, their music flowed throughout the theatre and into the ears and hearts of all around. Even patrons passing by on the sidewalks outside of the theatre were stopping to enjoy a bit of the beautiful music. It's hard not to be moved by the beauty and grace of Joshua's violin and his materful playing.

The Spencers Theatre of Illusion!

Today and Yesterday, The Spencers brought their Theatre of Illusion to The Lyric Theatre Stage. Kevin and Cindy Spencer spent a lot of time in the area doing residencies with Martin Memorial Hospital performing for children and also at some of the local schools.

Their vivacious personalities and insurmountable energy electrified The Lyric and all four performances thrilled audiences! With the spectacular light shows and incredible magic, The Spencers gave the audience (and staff members) quite the show!!

Hailing from Lynchburg, VA, The Spencers have performed all over the country and the world for that matter, and we were very happy to have them here for that last couple of days. Just don't ask how they do it! Truth is, only The Spencers know. Maybe its a combination of Lights, Smoke, Red Bull, Coke Zero and lots of Bananas and Grapes! Or maybe... It's Magic!

Theatre Orchestra of Florida

Today, The Lyric Theatre hosted The Theatre Orchestra of Florida as they presented "An Evening with Tony and Oscar".

The show was made up of many much-loved songs from award winning movies and musicals.

Some of those movies represented included: The Godfather and Titanic. Other peices came from shows such as Oklahoma!.

The orchestra was fantastic and the two singers were phenomenal.

Justin David at The Lyric Theatre

Tonight, Country Music Star, Justin David returned to The Lyric Theatre stage and blew the crowd away! Justin had performed here before when he appeared with Country Music Legend, Roy Clark, who, according to Justin's fan club page, is his mentor.

His undeniable musical talent can only be matched by just how kind and friendly he is. (He's pretty darn nice to look at too Ladies!) Playing Mandolin, Fiddle and Guitar in addition to his amazing voice, Justin David is a musical force to be reckoned with.

Justin first gained (much deserved) notoriety as a Top 5 Contestant on TV's 2005 season of Nashville Star. Since then, Justin has released multiple albums and has toured all over the country.

Justin and his band were every bit polite and gracious with their fans and staff members. Nothing but smiles, laughing and jokes throughout the evening before and after the show. They certainly made a whole lot of people very happy tonight! But what makes Justin David happy? Miller Lite. I guess theres nothing quite like a crisp, cool bottle of your favorite beer to make you feel at home while out on the road.

The set list was phenominal! The songs performed included a couple of Johnny Cash covers (always a house favorite!) and even a Tom Petty cover for the encore! Needless to say, if you missed the show, you missed a great one! We hope Justin will come back to The Lyric in the future, he's always welcome!

The Mills Brothers

Tonight The Lyric Theatre presented The Mills Brothers.

Elmer Hopper (who spent nearly two decades with The Platters) and John Mills (son, grandson, and nephew of the original groups members) put on quite the show as they were backed by a band of local musicians.

The boys enjoyed some tasty Italian food from Jerry's La Famiglia (located in Downtown Stuart) and even grabbed some "To-Go" boxes at the end of the evening.

The Show was amazing and the audience really enjoyed themselves.

Burt Reynolds Closing Night & After Party

Tonight, John Loesser, The Lyric Theatre's Executive Director, hosted Board Members, Burt Reynolds, Olivia Newton John (who enjoyed the evening's performance from the theatre's right box) and a few others at The Flagler Grill in Downtown Stuart to celebrate the success of the three day run of "An Evening with Burt Reynolds".

Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time! Of course, the evening wouldn't have been complete without paparazzi waiting very impatiently outside of the theatre and restaurant and peeping through the glass windows for a chance to catch a glimpse and snap a pic of the celebs in attendance.

Tonight was the opening night of "An Evening with Burt Reynolds". IT-WAS-FANTASTIC!!!!

Burt was such the showman, telling the audience about some of the stories of his life, his loves, his family and his long and continuous career.

The stage was set to look like his den in his Jupiter home. Some of the Lyric employees were invited down to take pictures and look around for themselves to ensure the closest accuracy. The goal was to make the audience feel like the had been invited by Burt into his home for an evening of reminiscing and laughter.

Burt talked about his early days growing up in south Florida and the time he spent playing football at FSU. He laughed about his early years in the film industry and even discussed a series of misfortune accidents that got young Burt into quite a bit of trouble and even caused some dramatic injuries.

He discussed some of the beautiful women he's shared portions of his life with and some of their photos were displayed on the wall behind him. The women mentioned included Sally Field and Loni Anderson. He flipped through photos and video clips to give the audience a even greater sense of closeness to him and his life. (Burt Reynolds is "a Mac" by the way, not a "PC").

We've got two more nights hosting Mr Reynolds and if they are anything like tonight, it will most definitely be a whole lot of fun! There will be plenty of Arizona Sweet Tea, Vanilla Boost, and 5 Hour Energy Shots around for this outstanding entertainer!

Travelin' McCourys Travel Down to Stuart

Tonight, The Travelin' McCourys made their way to The Lyric Theatre where they presented the audience with one of the most amazing displays of bluegrass perfection!!!

These guys played their instruments ever moment of the evening!
They played backstage.
They Played as they took the stage.
They played throughout the show (obviosuly)
They kept right on playing as they left the stage.
and all throughout intermission and immediately following the show, they just kept on playing.

It was apparent to everyone around just how much love these boys have for their music.
(and they sound amazing!)
Nice as can be, The Travelin' McCourys are comprised of bluegrass star Del McCoury's sons, Ron playing Mandolin and Rob playing Banjo.
They've brought along Jason Carter on Fiddle, Alan Bartram on Bass,
and they feature guest artists on Guitar/Vocals.

Today Todd Oliver and his Dogs Gone Wild Tour made their stop here at The Lyric Theatre.

Todd has brought his dogs to The Lyric Stage in the past,

so a lot of people were really excited about this show.

Lucy, Irvin, Todd & Elvis

This time, Todd had a band behind him and entertained the audience with a few tunes between "conversations" with the dogs. The songs included "Man's Best Friend".

Todd, the band, and the dogs were all as nice as could be. The light and fun atmosphere totally engulfed the building today and the audience could definitly feel it.

(Elvis, the basset hound, has a little separation anxiety,

and doesn't like being away from "Poppa Todd" too long.)

You can really tell just how much Todd and his posse of puppies really love each other.

Todd, who is a huge animal lover, has many different animals on his ranch, including,

horses and, you guessed it, MORE DOGS!

Today, as we were preparing for The Atlantic Classical Orchestra's Series #1 show, Olivia Newton John stopped by The Lyric!

Ms. John was out and about in Downtown Stuart doing some shopping at the local shoe store Tootsies and wanted to stop in and speak with Lyric Theatre Executive Director, John Loesser. She wanted to discuss the possibility of seeing one of Burt Reynolds shows and maybe evening doing a little show herself down here! (We would just love love love that!!!)

Tonight we had Dave Bennett, extremely talented clarinetist, paying tribute to

"The King of Swing" Benny Goodman.

The show was absolutely amazing!

All the wonderful big band music flowed throughout the building as the audience clapped, danced in their seats, and even sang along with this wonderful group of performers.

If you missed the show, keep a look out in future Lyric Theatre season programs for possible future shows. You definitely wont want to miss this guy twice!

BURT REYNOLDS graced The Lyric Stage today during a rehearsal for his upcoming show
"An Evening with Burt Reynolds."

Mr. Reynolds has got to be, hands down, one of the nicest people EVER!
As he entered the backstage area he greeted and shook hands with all staff members and introduced himself (as if everybody didn't already know him.)
His pleasant and gracious demeanor is a breath of fresh air in a world full of arrogant people who walk about with a false sense of entitlement.
Mr. Reynolds really is a class act and a true professional.

Thomas Winter is a local photographer, and an amazing one at that. For our 2010/2011 season, Thomas did a whole bunch of beautiful photos for
The Lyric.

Including this one entitled "Ghost Lamp".

It's a theatre tradition to always leave a light on. (It's bad luck to let your theatre go dark). While Thomas was here snapping photos he asked about this superstition and was so inspired by the story behind "The Ghost Lamp" that he even posted a blog about it.

Well, it's a whole new year and The Lyric Theatre, located in Historic Downtown Stuart, is happy for present a slew of great shows!

Make one of your New Years resolutions to get out in our beautiful city and see more shows. You can enjoy dinner before or after at one of the many delicious restaurants in the downtown area. You'll be very happy you chose to experience more of what our area has to offer in this wonderful New Year!

For those of you who don't know much about The Lyric Theatre, let's get you properly introduced:

"Our mission is to restore and provide a historic theater facility in Downtown Stuart in order to enhance cultural and educational development for Martin County and surrounding communities."

THE HISTORY OF THE LYRIC THEATRE

The LYRIC THEATRE was built in 1925 as a silent movie house and was operated until the depression when it was closed and eventually sold. Over the next 50 years it was bought and sold to various concerns and used in a variety of manners. In 1978 the theatre was purchased by a non-denominational church and was used for their weekly services until they built a new facility, and no longer needed the structure in downtown Stuart.

At that time, in 1987, a downtown redevelopment effort was underway. A group of community minded individuals saw the LYRIC THEATRE, situated in the heart of downtown, and realized there was an opportunity to save a historically significant structure, thus contributing to the redevelopment effort, as well as to provide a much needed location for various types of events presented to the community.

Since 1987, the LYRIC THEATRE has hosted a variety of events, ranging from classical theatre to rock and country bands, orchestra and jazz concerts, dance recital and school programs, as well as movies. It has also hosted charity fund raisers, civic presentations, and individuals who rent the facility.

The LYRIC THEATRE seats 500 and has a 22'X30' stage and features whisper-perfect acoustics. It has a balcony, spacious lobby and entrances on two downtown streets. As of October 1997, over $1.5 million in state and local dollars have provided exciting enhancements to the historic theatre, including structural repairs, new air conditioning, remodeled and improved backstage and dressing areas, new restrooms and office space.

The LYRIC THEATRE has been named to the National Register of Historic Places. This grand old theatre represents a colorful history in our community as a central gathering place for young and old alike.

Thanks to our supporters and grants from the State of Florida, the preservation of your LYRIC THEATRE continues for the cultural benefit of the Treasure Coast!
